Karen Howse - Textile Artwork
Karen studied a Degree in Textile Design at Winchester School of Art, graduating in 1989. She has shown her textile wall hangings nationally and internationally with the 62 Group, New Fibre Art and the South West Textile Forum. She is currently a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and Drawn to the Valley. Karen works from her workshop in Launceston, making Textile Art and jewellery.

“In my textiles I like to explore the essence and energy of a place or atmosphere. I enjoy the whole ‘felt experience’ of a moment in time."

My environment of North Cornwall is the inspiration for much of the works. I need to connect with a place and find the magic in the everyday. The Castle, North coast, the Moors, and my own small garden all feature in the textiles. I see art as alchemy, creating something special out of ordinary materials. Fine fabrics are bonded and free machine stitched, to create expressive lines and marks. The pieces change as I am working on them. It is an evolving process, a journey.
